Teacher: Mr Thirsk, Mrs St-Hill
TA: Miss Thompson
Spring Term 2025:

We wrote a newspaper article to inform readers about the time Philippe Petite walked the Twin Towers.
We also wrote letters in the voice of Philippe Petit’s mum to express how she felt about what he was going to do.
In our informal voices we wrote tweets in the voice of Philippe Petit to show what he might say on social media today about the event:

Our new unit this half term is: Fairy Tales Fun! We have been reading the amazing book Rumaysa by Radiya Hafiza, which weaves together three well-known fairy-tales! We have been exploring the book, and will be doing some writing linked to the book.

We have been working hard on our arithmetic skills, Plus addition, multiplication, division and subtraction. The pupils have a had a big focus on oracy and how they explain their maths.

In R.E we have been exploring why people believe in a God. We have had some very in depth conversations about this topic, and developed an understanding of people’s different views of God – both those who believe and those who do not believe. We also had to find out about the views of staff in our school and our family member’s views.
To finish our unit we had a debate! The class was split into 2 groups – one group represented the Theists and the other group represented the Atheists. The groups had some time to look over previous learning and create arguments to support their arguments for and against God. Mrs St.Hill was extremely impressed with how the children brought their learning together to put forward arguments, and was also proud of how children even though their side may not have been arguing for what they believe, they got into role and supported their group in the debate.

In Art, we have been learning about the artist Frida Khalo, and also exploring African art print. We are working towards combining the two styles of art to create our own personal portrait! Watch this space!
Here are some photos of us exploring Frida Khalo, we focussed on nature and leaves as this something which appears a lot in Frida Khalo’s art.

In DT we have been having fun making Kalimbas

In Computing we are learning create 3D models and make reels to share online.

In PSHE, with Ms K we have been exploring strategies to help us deal with different emotions we experience, we worked in Teams to create posters to represent the groups collaborative learning.

We have been learning vocabulary and phrases linked to the weather and using these to begin to have conversations about the weather.

The theme has been ‘Being Healthy’ – we have been singing in unison and practising our tune percussion.
